Self improvement has always been a primary mission for me, especially since I have seen many tremendous benefits from attempting to continuously improve myself in multiple disciplines of life. It can be confusing sometimes when determining what area of your life to attempt improvement. The best part is you don’t need to start self improvement at any specific department in your life. Also trying to wait on any specific time or event to start improving yourself will only set you back further in life and push you all the way to the bottom of the line, then who wants to be at the back of the line, sure not me eitherways. In this post I will be compiling a list of self improvement tips to help you develop a better person for yourself. And the saying goes be like the person you wish to meet.
1. Start journaling
I choose to start with this tip because it is pretty basic but can have such huge impact when done correctly. As we all know journaling as writing down the way we feel or writing just about anything which is normally a private therapy. But journaling can be a lot more than just therapeutically of writing down the things that bothers you. Incorporating journaling into all areas of your life including professional and business, can be the difference between getting things done or having everything slide through the cracks as a result of poor memory. Journaling from the perspective of your personal life can also help in fixing your broken sleep patterns if you suffer from mental insomnia. Writing things down can be a way of relieving stress also writing things down can make your goals seem more realistic and likewise increases your chances of remembering you are also able to refer back to it when you feel lost or uncertain.
2. Take an online course.
This may seem like a no brainer especially since the launch of the COVID19, well almost everything is online these days. Taking an course online can help you to improve yourself at your own convenience of learning from where ever in the world you are located. It can also be beneficial especially if your have a busy work or lifestyle schedule. I particularly recommend doing this especially if your find interest in and want to grow in a particular department, this can be beneficial for promotions in your job and improving your skillsets for developing and driving a successful career.
3. Learn a new skill.
Speaking of developing skillsets, learning new skills are always the way to go to have a viable or even successful life. The culprit is the competition. How can you make yourself and your team more sustainable? How can you improve your standard of life? How can you live healthier & happier? Its all within the new skills you learn everyday which we call survival based on our day to day experiences. But I like to look at it as, regardless human beings are able to learn hundreds of different skills, I like to choose the ones more rewarding and your perspective may be different from mine. Learning skills which helps you being both healthy and happy not omitting versatility.
The type of skill you choose to learn will vary from person to person base on background, past experiences, learned and unlearned skills, lifestyle, etc. Always seeking to learn new skills can be very rewarding, try to make it a part of your self improvement routine.
4. Start exercising
This is where most persons generally gets discouraged, especially if they weren’t already possessed a high metabolism. Exercising can be so beneficial throughout your life in more ways than one and believe me it works like magic.
When it comes down to exercise, physical appearance enhancement is the part mostly associated with exercise as humans are some very visual beings and majorly about what is seen. When the true power lies within that which you can’t see, “You see the flame but you cant see the heat likewise you see the movement but not the wind or you see the thunder but not from whence it came” but you get the gist. The true effect of exercise is better noticed on the inside. In actuality the outside is most cases a reflection of what is happening inside. The fun part is you feel confident and sexy but you also feel healthier with a strong mind. And don’t forget to exercise your brain muscles likewise often enough.
5. Read more educational articles & books
Speaking of exercising your brain muscles, reading more can be a very effective way of developing your vocabulary and mental strength and stability. Choosing to read more is likewise a great way to improve your mood while improving your knowledge at the same time. Reading for everyone can sometimes have different meanings, as not everyone share the same sentiments for such delicate skill. Regardless there is no substitute for reading, you can likewise watch educational videos and tutorials to help you learn new skills and habits.
6. Start Eating healthier
This should be on your bucket list for improving your life since last 5 years but nevertheless its better to be late than never, which means the next better time to start is now. Eating healthier also benefits your mental growth and development. See it this way, garbage in garbage out, put your best in, get your best out, your body and results that is. It goes even further though we are not sure all the future hold, by eating healthier you improve the probability of a longer, healthier, happier and fulfilling life. May be considered to be more expensive especially if one is thinking in the moment, but try taking a distant look in the overly uncertain future, what does it have on your overall health, body & life in the long run or will you even have made it that far in real life. Not saying it doesn’t require an extra upfront investment or additional cost than being basic but your health is an investment an asset bro not a liability. Your best investment is investing in your self and your team and investing in yourself is investing in your team. Need less to say more, it is actually a lifestyle envied by many especially when they have exhausted their probationary lifespan age period and not very young. Can go on and on, but you get the concept eating healthier is actually a way of improving yourself.
7. Start a business you are passionate about
Comes down to my ball game, lets talk business yeh. Business can be an effective poverty eradication tool and has been used in many countries to improve their economies and way of life by creating jobs and sources of innovation and funding for millions of people and organizations.
And starting a business can likewise be one of your most promising life goals, which better off established earlier in life especially if the requirements are met. Starting a business is likewise a way of helping others which is one of the best ways to see it especially if your just about starting out. Life is so fragile yet so beautiful, smiling faces are all that really mattered unless you are sad for whatever ever reason. Like life is so short why waste time on having sad days or making others have sad days. Did you know smiles and laughter is contagious, when others smiles you smile and when you smile it relieves stress and others smile back at you unless they have some other problems for what ever reason. Also business can be very fulfilling especially if you do something you love and done correctly, you can make plenty money.
8. Learn to rest well
Though grossly under looked, it is important for everyone to get adequate rest in order to be productive during work periods. Sleep may not be considered a skill but rather an essential requirement for human sustainability. There are several techniques, habits & practices that can be implemented to fall asleep faster and have deeper more restful sleep. All thought rest periods may be seen as an unproductive periods by many persons but in reality sleep can be the best medicine for the worst medical conditions yet and here is why, when you rest deeply your body automatically repairs itself including muscles and tissues from a hard days work and make much needed preparation for the next days work. Remember what you put in is what you get out, knowing that in order for your brain and body to operate optimal you must first have gotten adequate rest to improve your energy and effectiveness. But try not to sleep too much as this can likewise be a terror for your life making you waste vital hours on unnecessary sleep. Remember the body stores unused energy as fat, which means producing more energy and not using it will make you fat and that’s not self improvement.
9. Learn to communicate better
Communication is a vital tool for living organisms to survive sustainably. Learning to communicate even better will enable you to use this tool more effectively hence always getting better results from your communication interactions. Learn to master effective communication can be the game changer for your life and the persons around you. It is always best to factor the Cs of communication in your interactions The seven C’s are: correctness, conciseness, courtesy, concreteness, consideration, completeness and clarity. Taking note and understanding these foundations of communication can set you on the right path to improving your communication with others hence better outcomes for yourself and your team.
10. Start setting goals.
Goal setting can feel very unnecessary at first but understanding this can be the difference between where you want to end up and where you actually end up, if you get my meaning. This can be very critical if you have big dreams naa mean. Start by setting some long term goals like what do you want to be or known for in the end? What do you want to achieve in 5 or 10 years? You should get the meaning by this. Thought you need to set SMART goals, always remember you don’t need to have it all figured out to move forward. Goal setting is a primary strategy for winning organizations and separates them substantially from companies that does not set goals, understanding this can help you to leverage the same strategy for your personal life and self improvement mission.
